2011 Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association Senior Bowl Summary

Date: Sunday November 27, 2011

Eighty-Eight of Connecticut's top senior players got together for the 2011 CSCA Senior Bowl on Sunday, November 27th. The Bowl was held at Skobel-Rusek Stadium at Middletown High School. The game featured some recognizable names from this year's state tournament, including four players from Class L Champion Bunnell and three each from Class M Champ Suffield and Class L Runner-up Avon. An estimated 20 college coaches were in attendance to watch Connecticut's finest 2011 high school senior soccer players.

Two games took place, the first between Region 2 and Region 3 at 1PM and the second game at 3PM. In game one, Region 2 struck first when Conor Lenehan scored an unassisted goal 12 minutes into the game. Region 3 came right back when Arian Hoxha scored 30 seconds later from a Nolan Kinne pass. About ten minutes passed before Region 3 poured it on as Danilo Rivera, Jesse DiPietro and Michael Ranando scored at the 25, 29 and 32 minute marks, respectively. Malcolm Miller assisted on his University/Prince schoolmate Rivera's goal. The score remained at 4-1 for the remainder of the game as both teams some solid defense. Canton's Michael Grisevich recorded 4 saves and was named Region 2 MVP, while DiPietro (Amity) took the MVP honors for Region 3.

At 3 O'clock, Regions 1 and 4 took to the field and played a hard-fought defensive match for 80 minutes. Both teams had many scoring chances. There was great goalkeeping on both sides. Bunnell's Sebastian Tamayo made four saves on an injured ankle and Chris Musco of North Haven stopped another five for Region 4. Nonnewaug's Justin Knobloch and New London's Romer Ochoa both made five saves to preserve the shutout for Region 1. Region 4 outshot Region 1, 16-10, but Region 1 scored the only goal of the match. Gavin Neuendorf knocked in a corner from the foot of Guilford's Kevin Jacobsen with just over a minute gone in the second half. Neuendorf (NFA) was awarded the Region 1 MVP for his goal and Bunnell's Justin Lewis was the Region 4 MVP.

Congratulations to the Senior on a great season and career. We wish you the best in your post-high school careers.

Sincerely,

The CSCA
